Studies show that attending a university that is a good fit academically, socially, and financially results in several positive outcomes for students, including reduced stress and increased overall satisfaction. But with more than 5,000 colleges and universities in the United States, how can you determine which school is right for you? If you’ve done your fair share of Google searches and have made more clicks on a university’s website than you can count, then an NYU open house might be the best next step for you.
During the college search process, students are advised to reserve their spot on a campus tour. That’s because it’s thought to be the only way to get a “feel” for the campus. At NYU, our campus tour allows our student ambassadors to share their NYU story while showcasing campus facilities and the Greenwich Village neighborhood. Although the campus tour provides great insight into the life of an NYU student, it’s truly only an introduction. If you really want to know if NYU is the school for you, our fall open houses paint an even clearer picture of campus life. Both our Pathways Open House and our October Open House invite prospective students to take a deeper look into the campus without walls. Here are seven reasons you should consider making a weekend visit this season.
1. Tour Our Residence Halls
During Open House, student ambassadors lead tours of rooms in five of our first-year residence halls. We show several traditional and apartment-style residence halls for you to compare. This is an offering reserved only for special event days, so you won’t get to see these on a regular tour.
2. Visit the All University Lounge
At the All U lounge, you’ll have a chance to get acquainted with campus departments like the Student Health Center and the Office of Residential Life. Representatives from each department are eager to speak with prospective students about the resources and support services they offer. In addition, this is a great place to pick up some NYU swag and take pictures with our beloved Bobcat. Don’t forget to collect materials to read on your commute home!
3. Get Advice on Financing Your Education
In addition, our All U lounge also gives you an opportunity to learn about the myriad ways to finance your education. The financial education department is ready to give you advice. From finding outside scholarships and beyond, they can help you make sense of the different types of aid. Further, representatives from the Office of Financial Aid will also be on hand to answer additional questions about applying for financial aid at NYU.
4. Meet Our Admissions Counselors
Have questions about your application? Speak with an admissions counselor to get advice on navigating the common application. For example, get tips on writing the perfect essay or choosing your major.
5. Connect with Current Students
Our student ambassadors are excited to chat with you and share their NYU story. So be sure to ask them about what it’s like to have New York City as their campus and, most importantly, where they go to eat the best pizza in New York City.
6. Mingle with Faculty and School Reps
Want to hear more about a specific program of study or major? Not sure what major might be right for you? Speak with one of our school representatives and get information about majors, minors, course offerings, and study away opportunities.
7. Learn About Our Other Degree-Granting Campuses
Admissions representatives from NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai are waiting to share what it’s like to be a part of a dynamic community of students studying at our global campuses. So stop by their session to hear about all the NYU opportunities that exist beyond New York City.
