Concentration in journalism and marketing at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study

Where do you turn for support related to your media degree?
“My academic adviser at Gallatin has been one of the most genuinely caring people I’ve ever met. Knowing I have someone I can rely on to help guide me in the right direction when I’m deciding which courses to explore or how to balance my class load with clubs and internships has been amazing. I was expecting NYU to be hands-on, but I didn’t know my advisers would be so helpful and considerate.”

Media, Culture, and Communication (MCC) at the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development

Why did you choose to pursue MCC?
“MCC is about media—so it covers everything from film, music, fashion, and literature to food and philosophy. I’m able to look at the United States from an outside perspective and draw on everything I studied about the media in three different countries, discerning the difference between reliable and unreliable media and applying it in real time.”

Student Spotlight: Sam Cheng

Interactive Media and Business (IMB) at NYU Shanghai

What has been your favorite media course?
“In my first year, I took Communications Lab, which is an introduction to software like Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop. It was great because even though I knew I wanted to study IMB, I didn’t know that much about media. I learned so many technical skills, which inspired me to apply to go further and apply for opportunities like being a media assistant for NYU Shanghai’s sports teams.”
