I Hope I Get It: Broadway Tickets at Student Prices
Start spreading the news! You’ve made it to NYU and you’re so excited to take advantage of everything that New York, New York has to offer. However, some of those Broadway ticket prices don’t seem to be aimed at a college student budget. Never fear! I’ve compiled a list of resources for NYU students to seize the day and enjoy seeing as many shows as they can!
1. NYU ScholasTix
All NYU students, alumni, faculty, and staff have access to an amazing box office service called NYU ScholasTix, which is “NYU’s clearinghouse for tickets to the movies, Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, sporting events, musical concerts and more, all at a reduced price.” I’ve used ScholasTix to find tickets for some of the hottest Broadway shows months in advance, at a reduced rate.
Additionally, ScholasTix is where NYU students can find tickets to events and performances at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts! Located in the heart of campus, Skirball is one of the largest theaters south of the Theater district and is even considered an off-Broadway house! The best part about events at Skirball is that if tickets are not already free for NYU students, the price is capped at $15.
Pro tip:
Signing up for the ScholasTix email list gets you access to the occasional free ticket deal for movies and shows! How amazing is that? I’ve seen 7+ shows for free through NYU and can’t wait to see more.
2. Lottery and Rush
You want to see some of the most popular shows on Broadway the day/week of? Check out rush and lottery tickets. For lottery tickets, you can enter a virtual pool for a chance to win highly discounted tickets the day of. Famously, Hamilton has a $10 lottery every day! Rush tickets are offered on a first-come, first-served basis either virtually or in person. Eager NYU students can find rush tickets and lotteries through websites such as TKTS, Broadway Direct, or TodayTix.
Additionally, by visiting the TKTS booth in Times Square or at Lincoln Center, you can find dozens of discount ticket offers.
I love entering lotteries on the TodayTix app and even got to see the acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins at Classic Stage Company last fall for only $15!
