Junior Jordan Winick, a Film and Television major at the Tisch School of the Arts, was a filmmaker long before she came to NYU.

“I first started making stop-motion videos with my American Girl dolls when I was in seventh grade,” Jordan recalls. “I used to sleep over at my friend’s house and we would spend hours working on little shorts. I even made a YouTube channel, PurpleDachshundAG—now PurpleDachshundStudios—where I uploaded my content.”

In high school Jordan took television and production classes, and her love of film grew. What’s more, she poured her heart into news stories, sports segments, and other fun little shorts. And when it came time to decide what she wanted to do next, she knew she wanted to study at NYU.

Tisch offers Jordan a unique culture of creativity, composed of passionate artists dedicated to storytelling. World-class professors share their own experience in the field with students, as do guest lecturers from the industry. She even draws inspiration as a filmmaker from her peers. “My classmates are an incredibly talented group of individuals,” she says. “Being around other creative students gives me access to their talents and teachings—I find the informal sharing of skills among students really enriches my learning experience.”

NYU’s studios offer even more opportunities for experimentation. “The animation area is stocked with the latest equipment and technology, which allows student animators to succeed,” Jordan says. “There is a stop-motion room with a green screen and camera equipped for making stop-motion shorts. For classes like Sight and Sound, I used new cutting-edge camera equipment for my projects. And of course, I’ve spent many hours in the computer lab working on the tablets to complete projects.”
