Campus Safety
For NYU’s Department of Campus Safety, the safety and wellbeing of NYU community members across our global network is a top priority. In New York, Campus Safety has several locations open to community members, including 561 LaGuardia Place and 7 Washington Place in Manhattan, and 2 MetroTech and 370 Jay Street in Brooklyn.
- At 561 LaGuardia Place, the lobby is open around the clock and staffed with Campus Safety Officers available to provide assistance.
- The 7 Washington Place lobby is the home of Lost and Found and ID Card Services during weekday business hours.
- Campus Safety’s 2 MetroTech location in Brooklyn also houses an ID Card Service Center open Monday through Friday.
- Located on the Cellar level, the Campus Safety space at 370 Jay Street is open Monday through Friday and is staffed with team members from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., including a Lost and Found desk open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition, there are Campus Safety Officers at the entrances of many NYU buildings, including residence halls. Facilities where a Campus Safety Officer is posted 24/7 have a green light posted outside. An NYU ID card is required for entry into all NYU buildings. There are also emergency call boxes placed across campus that are easily accessible in case of an emergency.”
Safe NYU Mobile App
Through this free mobile app developed by the Department of Campus Safety, students can call 911 for life-threatening emergencies and receive push notifications or real-time updates about situations on or near campus. The app functions as a mobile emergency call box and provides options for students to anonymously report incidents and communicate directly with Campus Safety. The app is also useful outside of the New York City area. There is safety information for more than 190 countries and it offers safety preparedness tips, transportation information, and emergency numbers with the tap of a button.
NYU Safe Ride
NYU Safe Ride provides free transportation between buildings for students between the hours of 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the academic term. Safe Ride vans offer on-demand shared rides to and from NYU facilities in Manhattan, Brooklyn and to three local mass transit stations in the campus vicinity. Students can request a ride using the Safe NYU Mobile App or by calling the Department of Campus Safety.
