At NYU Tandon, Choosing Your Degree Is Just the Beginning
No matter what you envision for your future, the NYU Tandon School of Engineering has the tools to help you achieve it. NYU Tandon is a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn. Here, students don’t just choose their majors, they choose their mission. One of the hallmarks of an NYU engineering experience is that students are defined by the problems they solve, not the program they pursue.
For example, Adonis Garcia, Class of 2026, used his Computer Science major to create artificial intelligence tools that make education more accessible to children across the globe. Alisa Avduli, Class of 2029, uses her studies in biomolecular science to better understand chronic pain and neurological disorders. Meanwhile, Electrical Engineering major Idris Al-Wazani, Class of 2027, focuses on restoring urban infrastructure in a sustainable and equitable way.

NYU Tandon MakerSpace
The NYU Tandon MakerSpace is a 10,000 square foot workspace lab open to all NYU students. Here, you can create prototypes, build a career, and form a community of like-minded peers. Students take advantage of 3D printers, laser cutters, printed circuit boards, and computers with the latest design software.
Most importantly, MakerSpace provides a collaborative home where you can form a team, get inspired, and have fun. Students often attend events at MakerSpace throughout the year. They train on the equipment, take design software workshops, and find funding for their projects. Anyone with an idea can come to MakerSpace and bring their project to life. What’s more, the MakerSpace offers students a variety of employment opportunities.
The MakerSpace is also home to Tandon’s Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program, one of the largest of its kind. VIPs are multiyear, multidisciplinary projects open to students across NYU. They merge education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, providing students an opportunity to work on multidisciplinary teams. Students from the Stern School of Business; the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development; and other schools come together, offering practical experience that mirrors real-world working environments.
Experiential Learning at NYU Tandon
Housed within the MakerSpace, Tandon’s Experiential Learning Center is a one-stop shop connecting students with a wide range of immersive and multidisciplinary learning activities, collaboration, and career-readiness opportunities. Whether you’re hoping to grow as a leader, gain a global perspective, or contribute to ongoing research projects, the team at the Experiential Learning Center is ready to guide you. Here, you’ll be introduced to programs like Global Leaders and Scholars in STEM (GLASS) and the Undergraduate Summer Research Program. Additionally, you can learn more about Tandon’s community service programs and global opportunities.
The NYU Leslie Entrepreneurial Institute
Located a quick subway ride away at NYU’s Washington Square campus, Tandon students engage with the NYU Leslie Entrepreneurial Institute at the Mark and Debra Leslie Entrepreneurs Lab each and every day. Tandon students are among the institute’s biggest population of users, taking advantage of its many resources and programs.
Through the Entrepreneurial Institute, you’ll have access to one-on-one coaching and accelerators providing expert support to help test, build, and launch your start-up. Not only are Tandon students at the lab building companies that change the world, they’re also accessing internships, attending events, and creating like-minded, entrepreneurial-focused communities.
NYU Tandon @ The Yard
NYU Tandon @ The Yard is one of New York City’s most exciting emerging media playgrounds. Located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, it’s home to a 14,000-square-foot media lab and research facility that includes two production studios and multiple systems for working with emerging media technology. Stars like A$AP Rocky have even used the studio’s 21-camera system. NYU Tandon faculty have also used the emerging media studio to share the stories and inspiration behind their work. Whether you’re taking part in a VIP at the Yard, attending one of its many events, or spending the summer interning there, there’s something for everyone.
