It’s been four years since I first entered New York University. Four years since I came to live in New York City for the first time. I remember back as a high school senior I created a bucket list of all the places and things I wanted to do in New York City. I spent hours researching the perfect things to do. During the course of my first year, I kept checking things off. I went to the Met for the first time. I visited the Bronx zoo as well. But eventually I grew busy with classes and my own uncharted adventure.

As a Senior in my final semester of undergraduate, I want to revisit that list. Currently I am still figuring out where I will go once I graduate. Maybe I’ll stay in New York, but maybe I won’t. But even if I stay in New York City, my journey will be different. This is my final time to live in this moment. So in preparation for me walking across the stage. In preparation for me concluding my undergraduate career. Here is The Bucket List for Every NYU Senior.

The New York University Bucket List

From watching squirrels to standing on the field at Yankees’ stadium there’s a lot to try to do. We are a University in and of the city. That’s apparent with all our traditions and fun events.

Yankees Stadium Graduation

Every NYU Senior prepares for this. While each school has their own small graduation at NYU – mine being at Radio City Music Hall – the big one takes place at Yankees Stadium. Students are ushered into the stands before they get to walk the stage. Not only is this a historical field that we get to use for Graduation, we get to walk on the field. Attending the Yankees Stadium Graduation is at the top of my list! I’ve been looking forward to this big moment.

Bucket List
I've seen a game at Yankees Stadium but have yet to experience the Yankees Stadium Graduation
Attend a Squirrel Watching at Washington Square Park

Something brought up constantly on tour is the Squirrels of Washington Square Park. Washington Square Park is the heart of New York University. The squirrels are one of the many furry friends that live in Washington Square Park. It’s become an NYU thing to go with people, sit on a bench, and watch the squirrels. I’ve always wanted to try this and now is the time to do it.

See a New York University Production

We have so many talented students that put on a ton of productions! I have not gotten to see that many NYU sponsored productions yet. My goal is to see more of them this year. I want to enjoy my last semester, while supporting other NYU students. Our Tisch School of the Arts has their own production schedule. Students can use this to check out what is being put on this year. I’ve already been scoping out some productions!

Visit all the NYU Residential Halls

As someone that has lived in university housing for all four years, I have barely gone to any of the Residential Halls. I lived in University Hall my first year with the campus Dunkin. Now in my fourth year, I am a Residential Assistant at Gramercy Green. So far I’ve visited: Othmer, University Hall, Palladium, Gramercy, Weinstein, Third North, Paulson, and Lipton. But I’ve never gone into the other halls. Each Hall at NYU has their own unique perk and atmosphere. I want to see it before I leave.

Attend GRAD Alley.

Grad Alley is another Graduation Tradition. The day before commencement graduates gather together and celebrate. GRAD Alley takes place at the straights surrounding Washington Square Park and is only open to graduates. I’ve been waiting four years to get my official invitation, and finally it arrived! Grad Alley is full of carnival games, music, food, and tons of entertainment.

Attend a Violets 100 Event

V100 is a month-long celebration marking 100 days till Graduation! It takes place in February. It’s a scary reminder of how close graduation is. But it also reminds us how far we’ve come. It officially marks that we’re so almost to the finish line. V100 has a variety of different events. There’s merch booths and even concerts. I’ve yet to attend any yet, but I still have some time to check this off my bucket list.

Attend an NYU Sports Game

NYU is a Division Three school, but we still have a lot of competitive teams. Just the other day our Women’s Basketball team made history! They now have the longest record of consecutive wins in D3 Women’s Basketball – 82! I’ve always wanted to go to an NYU sports game. Now is the time to finally get to see one.

Beyond Washington Square Park: The New York City Bucket List

New York City is an endless sea of opportunities. There is always something new to do. While NYU has a lot to offer, the City itself has so many unique and fun activities.

Visit the Top of the Rock and the One World Observatory

These both tower far above New York City, creating a fantastic view of the city. Top of the Rock is on top of Rockefeller Center. I’ve been there a few times but never gone up to the observatory. The World One Observatory is located in lower Manhattan. It’s the observatory located on the One World Trade Center. Now is the time to finally go.

Ride the Staten Island Ferry

Somehow I have only driven through Staten Island. I’ve never actually set foot on Staten Island nor taken the Ferry. My goal this semester is to finally make that journey. Finally, I could explore this borough which I haven’t seen much of. I am particularly interested in seeing Snug Harbor, the Alice Austen House, and more. I suggest everyone joins me in venturing onto the Ferry.

Bike in Central Park

My one friend loves biking now in New York City. I love to bike, but I’ve always been nervous. I tell myself every year: “this will be the year when I finally bike in New York City.” But it never is. Supposedly biking through Central Park is magical, but I’ve yet to experience it.

Do a tour of the New York City Catacombs

Did you know that New York City had their own Catacombs? Located underneath St. Patrick Cathedral, is the Catacombs of New York! You’re able to tour them. This has always been on my list. So here’s my proposal for a Bucket List item: explore what lies beneath New York City.

Check out the New York Public Library

My one friend loves the New York Public Library. She loves Libraries in general. She’s always in the Bobst Library or the Public Library. And I’m a little jealous. I’ve always wanted to go into the Main Branch of the New York Public Library. Located at Bryant Park, this is a historical landmark of New York. Supposedly it has so many gorgeous reading rooms and galleries. I’ve been told these make perfect locations to find a book and relax while looking out at the park.

Have adventures with friends

Graduation is coming. A lot of my friends will move onto different places. This is the last semester we may all be together in one place. It’s bittersweet, but we still have time to make the most of it. My last bucket list item proposal is to spend time with friends. Take them on your Bucket List journey. Make memories with them that will last a lifetime.

Four Years is a short time

I have four months till I graduate. Four Months to complete the rest of my Bucket List. A Bucket List that I started four years ago. Time moved so fast during my time at New York University. Just yesterday I remember being admitted as a Liberal Studies student. Now I am graduating as a Classical Civilization and History double major. My time here has shaped me. The people here have shaped me. The city has shaped me. I have grown into a different person through the course of four years. I am excited to see what my life will look like in five months. But for now, I am going to cherish what I have left.

Bucket List
Me over four years ago on my Admitted Students Tour for the Class of 2026!

Castor (he/they) is a Senior studying Classical Civilization and History, with a minor in Creative Writing, at the College of Arts and Science. Originally from Ashburn, Virginia, he enjoys exploring the city during his free time, attending concerts, and discovering the best coffee and book shops! If not doing that or working, he is typically found running his two Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, writing poetry, or reading Greek Tragedy.
