Building Bridges in Health Care: The NYU Meyers Interprofessional Education Scholarship
There is no doubt that studying nursing at NYU is full of opportunities. But there are some that stand out just a little more than others, with one being the Meyers Interprofessional Education (IPE) Scholarship. Every year, about 12 nursing students are selected for this program, which is so much more than a scholarship. It isn’t just about covering your junior year’s tuition, room, and board (although, yes, it totally does that!). It’s also an incredible chance for you to grow as a nurse by learning and working alongside medical students at NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island.

What Makes This Scholarship So Special?
1. Full financial support
Yes, nursing school can be expensive, but this scholarship covers everything—tuition, room, and board for your entire junior year. That means one less thing to stress about while you focus on your clinicals and schoolwork.
2. Interprofessional collaboration
The best way to learn how to collaborate in health care is by doing it. You will be paired with a medical student and deliver crucial information on your assigned patient during nursing rounds—something that only individuals in this program are allowed to do.
Who’s Eligible?
While you may be eager to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, make sure you meet these eligibility requirements first:
- FAFSA: Have a valid FAFSA on file for the academic year.
- Résumé and transcript: Submit a current résumé and an unofficial transcript in PDF format.
- Essays: Respond to two essay prompts (maximum of 500 words each).
- GPA: Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
- Enrollment: This scholarship is only for traditional undergraduate junior-year nursing students (sorry, accelerated students—you’re not eligible).
The Application Process
The application typically opens in the spring semester of your sophomore year (around April), and you’ll hear back about a month later. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to gather your materials and work on those essays! Here are the essay prompts you’ll need to respond to:
- Describe an experience in your life that influenced your decision to become a nurse.
- Describe how IPE will enhance your nursing school experience.
Pro tips:
- Draft your answers first! Trust me, your first draft doesn’t need to be perfect. I went through two drafts and multiple rounds of edits before I submitted mine. This process also gives you time to reflect on why you ultimately chose nursing and how this scholarship aligns with your current and future nursing goals.
- Pay attention to application details: Double-check that you’ve completed every requirement. Missing something could cost you the opportunity.
- Be clear and concise: Stick to the 500-word limit for your essays. Focus on answering the prompts directly and avoid unnecessary details.
- Proofread everything: A polished, error-free application shows your attention to detail and professionalism. Have someone else read your essays, too—fresh eyes can catch things you might miss.
As a recipient of this nursing scholarship myself, I was extremely nervous about the application process as a whole. Looking back, here are some additional pieces of advice I would offer!

Be Authentic and Genuine
The people reading your essays are nurses who’ve been in your shoes. So, they know what it means to be passionate about this career and can tell when an applicant is being sincere. Be real about your journey. Think back to those moments that made you realize nursing was the path for you and share them. Let your personality and passion shine through your writing!
Reach Out for Help
Talk to upper-level students or previous scholarship recipients! They’ve been through this process and can offer valuable advice on everything from writing your essays to what the clinical experience is really like. It’s a great way to get insider tips and understand what makes a strong application.
Submit Everything on Time
There are absolutely no extensions for this deadline—none. Don’t let procrastination be the reason you miss out on such an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Make sure you have all your materials ready and triple-check the submission deadline.
