As an NYU student, I know how incredible and sometimes overwhelming it can feel to have so many creative resources at your fingertips. NYU offers an incredible lineup of tools and spaces to help you bring your artistic ideas to life. Whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker, a musician, a dancer, or an actor, NYU has everything you need to hone your skills, create professional-quality work, and collaborate with other talented students. Let me share with you the highlights of NYU’s creative resources—and how they can help you unleash your full potential.
Production Lab
Fueling Your Creative Growth
The Production Lab at 16 Washington Pl is a very useful resource for NYU creatives. This space isn’t just about access—it’s about support and development. You can reserve rehearsal spaces for your projects or attend workshops and talks featuring industry professionals who share their insights and tips.
One of the coolest aspects of the Production Lab is its Artist Creative Development Program. If you’re accepted, you’ll get tailored mentorship to help you develop your creative vision. And let’s not forget about their Creative Career Coaching—a lifesaver for figuring out your next steps after graduation. If you’re looking to bring your artistic ideas to life and get professional guidance, this place has your back.
Post Production Center
Your Creative Finishing Touch
Post-production can make or break a project. If you’re working on a film or video project, the Post Production Center on the 10th and 11th floors of 721 Broadway is where your work can truly shine. This facility offers state-of-the-art equipment, including editing suites, a color grading studio, a Foley and ADR studio, and a sound mixing studio. The staff here are always available to answer questions and guide you through the technology. Whether you’re perfecting your sound design or color grading your footage to match your artistic vision, this place ensures your work is polished and ready for the big screen.
Capture Studio
Unleash Your Imagination
If you’ve ever wanted to experiment with green screen technology, the Capture Studio on the 9th floor of 721 Broadway is your go-to. It’s such a fun way to push your creative boundaries. With its professional green screen setup, the studio allows you to transport your actors to any setting your mind can imagine. It’s especially useful for projects that require virtual environments or complex visual effects. Whether you’re creating a sci-fi adventure or need to transport your actors into a different environment. Or maybe you need to capture some motions and actions for your animation or video games. This is one of those places where the only limit is your imagination.
Digital Media Library
Endless Inspiration
Located on the 9th floor of 721 Broadway, the Digital Media Library is a goldmine. Here, you’ll find digital scripts, films, and other media resources—all free to access. You can find everything from obscure indie films to classic scripts that inspired your work. Beyond just films, they also loan out tech accessories like cables and other equipment to support your creative endeavors. Don’t be shy about asking the staff for help—they’re super knowledgeable and can help you find what you need quickly.
Avery Fisher Center for Music and Media
Your Creative Treasure Trove
On the 7th floor of Bobst Library, the Avery Fisher Center offers access to thousands of video and audio resources. Think everything from rare operas to modern blockbusters, plus an extensive collection of classical and popular music. The center also features immersive media rooms for collaboration, individual screening stations, and even a state-of-the-art immersive sound room. I’ve used their spaces for group screenings and critiques with classmates—it’s an amazing experience that’s both fun and productive. Reserve rooms in advance, especially during finals week when everyone’s scrambling to finish their projects.
Tisch TV Studio
Be Part of the Action
The Tisch TV Studio on the 12th floor of 721 Broadway is where the magic of television production happens. If you’re in courses like Sight and Sound: Studio, you’ll have the chance to work here and create broadcast-quality productions. One thing I love about this studio is the hands-on experience it offers. You can take on various roles—director, producer, camera operator, or even actor—and truly immerse yourself in the production process. It’s an incredible place to learn and collaborate with peers.
Todman Center
A Filmmaker’s Playground
The Todman Center on the 4th floor 35 West 4th Street is a versatile space designed for filming and rehearsals. Whether you’re working on a film, preparing for a play, or simply exploring new creative ideas, this facility has everything you need. The reservation system is straightforward, and the rooms are well-equipped for a variety of creative needs.

The Student Sound Stage on the 1st floor of 721 Broadway offers professional filming spaces that students can apply to use. It’s an ideal spot for shooting scenes that require high-quality production standards. Access to this facility allows students to work in an environment that mirrors professional industry settings.
Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center
The Future of Film
The Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center is one of NYU’s newest and most exciting resources. It is located at Industry City in Brooklyn and will open in Fall 2025. This facility is packed with cutting-edge tools like virtual sets and advanced production equipment. For students eager to explore cutting-edge filmmaking techniques, the Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center is a must. With an application process, this center offers access to groundbreaking technology like virtual sets and advanced production tools, bridging the gap between traditional and futuristic filmmaking.
Music Practice Rooms and Dance Spaces
Perfect Your Performance
For all the musicians and dancers out there, NYU offers music and dance practice rooms that you can book through KimmelOneStop. These spaces are perfect for rehearsing a piece, experimenting with choreography, or just practicing your skills. I’ve used the piano rooms a few times, and I love how quiet and focused the environment is. It’s a great escape from the hustle and bustle of campus life.
NYU is a haven for creators, and these resources are here to help you dream big and create boldly. Each of these spaces has played a role in shaping my artistic journey, and I know they can do the same for you. If you haven’t tried them out yet, I encourage you to take the leap—book a studio, borrow a resource, or attend a workshop. The possibilities are endless, and your next great project is waiting to happen. Let’s make something incredible together!
