The TL;DR
Discounted (and Free) Tickets Through ScholasTIX
One of my favorite NYU student benefits has to be access to box office services through the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. NYU ScholasTIX is “NYU’s clearinghouse for tickets to the movies, Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, sporting events, musical concerts and more, all at a reduced price.” Each week, I look forward to the ScholasTIX email blast, which offers limited-edition tickets and screenings. These special deals are not limited to the arts but span multiple disciplines. For example, you can attend readings, talkbacks, lectures, movies, comedy shows, and more! Thanks to ScholasTIX, I have seen numerous Broadway shows, including SMASH, Gypsy, Some Like It Hot, Cabaret, Boop!, Kimberly Akimbo, and more—all for free!
Student Technology Centers
The Student Technology Centers at NYU completely changed my experience. We have two on our Washington Square campus, located at LaGuardia and Third Avenue North residence halls. The LaGuardia Student Technology Center is one of my favorite places on campus due to the abundance of resources. You can check out the Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation 5, or even a VR set. That said, going to the Third North Student Technology Center is incredible as well. Here, you can use multiple NYU student benefits, such as having a meal in Third North Dining Hall.
24/7 Access to Free Transportation
I am an NYU shuttle stan. Every single morning, I ride the NYU shuttle to and from campus. It is the most convenient thing. It runs from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and goes all around campus, to our residence halls, the Rory Meyers College of Nursing in Kips Bay, and, of course, our Brooklyn Campus! The best part about NYU transportation and my mom’s favorite feature? NYU Safe Ride. Safe Ride is a car service that takes you from one NYU building to another from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Safe Ride has been the biggest save when I’ve been studying late in Bobst Library and do not want to walk back to my residence hall.
Free HBO Max
Thanks to NYU, I have watched all the hit shows, from Succession (which, by the way, was filmed in part at NYU Skirball; check out episode 406) to Abbott Elementary. While you live on campus, you can access HBO Max for free!
Starbucks, Dunkin’, and Peet’s Coffee
Having Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Peet’s Coffee on the meal plan has been one of my favorite NYU student benefits. Getting my Venti iced brown sugar shaken espresso or a taste from home (the West Coast) through Peet’s Coffee lets me indulge in some of my favorite treats while saving money on the meal plan.
MakerSpace
Have an idea you want to create? The MakerSpace, located at NYU Tandon School of Engineering on the Brooklyn Campus, is one of the coolest, most innovative places on campus. Open to all students, the MakerSpace offers advanced and high-technology equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, computers, materials, and more.
Strawberry Fest
Imagine a Strawberry cake that is over 100 square feet … Yup. That’s just one of the features of NYU Program Board’s Strawberry Fest. A community tradition for over 35 years, Strawberry Fest features live music, games, and events on campus, and it’s open to the entire NYU community!
