Why NYU Precollege

You’re ready to hit the ground running on your college search. You’ve started asking yourself where you want to be for four years. You’ve thought about what you want to study. But the question remains: How can I tell if a school is right for me? Luckily you’re in good hands at NYU!  Students have the chance to study during the spring semester, or six weeks during the summer. And you’ll learn how the Precollege program is designed to answer all the lingering questions you might have about college life. Along with this, you’ll be earning college credit and spending time with students from around the world. You’ll have the chance to experience NYU while still a high school student.

What to Study

So we know there are a great number of precollege programs across the country. And just what makes NYU stand out above the rest? Think of New York City: a diverse, hard-working metropolis full of innovation, spirit, and skyscrapers screaming toward the sky. Much like the beating heart of our great city, our students and faculty represent the best we have to offer. They’re diverse, driven, passionate people reaching up toward new heights. And for those in precollege, you’ll be working with students from around the world who’ve chosen to explore their own passions at NYU.

You’ll be at the center of opportunity: make your mark studying in STEM, get introduced to topics in psychology, or hone your craft in the performing arts. World renowned faculty teach your courses. And with them you’ll be present in discussions, pushed to examine your way of thinking, and introduced to new perspectives from classmates. NYU students take classes with our precollege students for a truly immersive experience. You’ll be held to the same standard, so remember that while these might be introductory courses, you’ll be challenged! You’ll earn those college credits and the grade that’s on your NYU transcript at the end of the semester. But, we know the students admitted to NYU Precollege are up to the challenge.

You’ll be learning what it means to be a college student, too. Have you wondered how you’ll balance studying in college with the sort of freedom college represents? Or maybe just how hard taking a course at NYU might be? We make sure that students at NYU Precollege get the chance to select the courses they want to take. Which is why we offer one-on-one sessions with advisers to help you sort your schedule. They also serve as valuable resources for when you might want to know more about things like tutoring or events happening around campus. They’ll help you with what you should be doing to prepare for college.

Having Fun, Too

Along with all the ambitious things you’ll be doing, we work hard to make sure that you can have fun, too! While we’re currently offering our Precollege program online for spring and summer 2021, we hold events for students to help build their community with one another. Our advising team helps host online movie nights, recipe shares, or playing games across zoom. Our teams work together to give opportunities to meet and spend time with other students. And when our program is in person, students travel across New York City for events to discover what we have to offer.

Additionally, we host an entire series of events dedicated to helping you with the admissions process. Students learn from the Our College 101 series about the college admissions process. You’ll hear from admissions professionals about what you might want to look for in schools. And from financial aid professionals about how you could fund your education. Entirely voluntary, we provide these workshops to our students to help prepare them for the future.
