Your career is a big commitment, and it never hurts to get a jump start on planning. NYU’s High School Academy Career Edge program offers high school students the opportunity to explore possible career paths before declaring a college major. In these immersive one-week courses, you’ll get real-world experience in your chosen industry while clarifying your interests and building your résumé . Citlalli Negrete, Program Administrator for Special Programs at the NYU School of Professional Studies, says, “As college admissions requirements change, one thing stays constant: getting involved in a pre-college program adds serious value to your college application. Though the Career Edge classes may only last a week, their impact will last a lifetime!”

Career Edge Program Overview

This is 2021, so all Career Edge courses will be 100 percent virtual this summer. But thanks to a variety of dynamic programming, the days will fly by. You’ll attend live classes via Zoom alongside students from across the country and around the world. Classes are structured like real college courses, which means you’ll learn from NYU’s renowned faculty members. While each course lasts one week, you can enroll in multiple courses to layer your learning. In addition to lectures, discussions, and group projects, there are virtual field trips and guest speakers to ensure an immersive, varied learning experience.

Furthermore, Career Edge students have access to many other benefits, including digital resources like the NYU Library. And even though you can’t gather in-person, virtual social events such as film screenings, student mixers, and pre-college workshops ensure a summer of community and social interaction. “We’re providing students with a pre-college experience like no other,” affirms Professor Negrete. “You can have fun exploring majors and careers while building your knowledge and making new friends.”

“I loved my class; it was so engaging. Our professor was incredible, personable, and experienced. Between the many guest speakers and other students in the course, everyone was passionate about the subject.” – Summer 2020 Career Edge Student
