If you’re beginning to brainstorm how studying away may fit into your college journey, you probably have questions. As you think it all through, keep in mind that studying away at NYU is different from other universities. Here, every student has access to highly personalized support systems designed to make studying away as seamless as possible. From course offerings that keep you on track academically to a wide range of services available both as you plan and when you arrive at your study away site, you will have everything you need for a successful summer, semester, or year away. There’s a reason why NYU sends more students to study away than any other university in the United States.

Make Your Plan with the Office of Global Programs

If you have any questions, the best place to start is NYU’s Office of Global Programs (OGP). At NYU, you have access to dedicated, expert administrative teams. They will help you navigate everything, from financial aid to housing. When it comes to securing your visa, NYU’s Office of Global Services (OGS) is your main resource. Have immigration and visa questions? They’ll answer them!

Additionally, if you want to learn more about a specific global academic center, OGP staff has members who represent each location.

“I reached out with questions I had about financial aid and housing before I made my decision to study away at NYU Los Angeles,” says Vivien Jerez. She’s a Film and Television major at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. “The team was really helpful!”

You Belong Here

No matter where you decide to study away, you will have access to an on-site team committed to helping you thrive. For example, Global Liberal Studies major Ciha Abdallah shares how diligently the NYU Accra staff worked to make sure all students adjusted well. She found the orientation especially helpful. “It was based in belonging and inclusion and introduced students to Ghanaian culture and ways to ease into it,” Ciha says. “The information packet was filled with important local lingo and symbols, as well as cultural dos and don’ts. A dance lesson followed the session, and the staff encouraged everyone to participate and showcase their talent.”

Get Personalized Support, When You Need It

Your on-site study away team supports you academically and organizes planned excursions. They also help you navigate and connect with the local culture. What’s more, they offer assistance if any unexpected health issues arise. Davina Stewart is an NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study student who studied away at NYU Madrid. She recalls, “I had COVID-19 my first week of classes, and the staff couldn’t have been more responsive and helpful. They directed me to a hospital and notified my professors about my situation. Then when I was having difficulties with mental health, I was immediately referred to the on-site counselor. The NYU Madrid staff gave me the best possible support.”
