Congratulations! If you’re reading this article, you have submitted your NYU Application. That is no easy feat, and you deserve to give yourself a relaxing break! Thus, here are some movie/TV show recommendations from one NYU student to a future Violet, Falcon, or Qilin!

Movies

The Grand Budapest Hotel

It’s a winter classic! Additionally, the cinematography alone will set you up for 100 minutes of relaxation after submitting your NYU Application. So, if you haven’t seen it, go now! If you have, it never hurts to watch it again. In addition, this one is especially for you, future hospitality majors!

Ice Age

C’mon, another absolute classic! You’ll laugh and cry, there’s nothing more perfect than this masterpiece. Additionally, everyone can learn a thing or two from Diego’s character development.

Little Women (1994 Version)

Even though I am a big fan of Greta Gerwig, the 1994 version hits different! Thus, It’s the perfect cozy winter film to watch with family or friends. Also, the costumes and soundtrack are everything!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Perhaps not the most winter-y vibe, but it is set in NYC, and therefore a perfect watch for those of you who hope to attend our Washington Square or Brooklyn campuses.

TV Shows

The Great British Bake Off

Don’t watch this one after dinner because I guarantee you’ll be hungry again. (Also, for some extra fun, watch the kids edition.) Besides being a perfect feel-good ambient watch, after hitting “submit” on your application, you’ll have plenty of time to try out a recipe or two yourself. Hey, it might even inspire you to pick up a Food Studies minor at NYU!

The Crown

Any future History majors? Or are you a Liberal Studies applicant hoping to do your First Year Away in London? If either of these describe you, this is a show you cannot miss out on! Plus, all of the iconic Diana outfits and moments are must-sees.

Love, Death & Robots

Perfect shorter stories to keep you occupied during a busy winter break! If you’re looking for something more philosophical, try “Zima Blue.” On the other hand, if you’re looking for something more light-hearted? Try the episode “Ice Age.”

Mindhunter

If you’re into mystery/crime, this is the show for you! Additionally, it’s perfect for any future psychology majors–get ready to bring in a ton of extra knowledge to your future Abnormal Psychology class.

Yasmin Hung (she/her/hers) is a rising senior pursuing Psychology in CAS with a minor in public health. She is interested in research regarding inclusive healthcare, particularly in women’s and reproductive health. As an international student, originally from Taiwan, she moved many times growing up.
