Building a Better Business Community at NYU Stern
At the NYU Stern School of Business, diversity isn’t just a buzzword. Rather, it’s a foundational value that underscores the entire educational experience. The school believes “organizations thrive when there is a diversity of both perspectives and talent,” says Victor C. Mullins, senior associate dean for diversity and inclusion.
This commitment to diversity drives Stern to provide opportunities for students of all backgrounds to flourish. One of the ways Stern does this is through two distinct scholarships. Read on to learn more about these unique scholarship opportunities.
Learning Leadership
In the Stern Breakthrough Scholars Leadership Program, students from underserved communities receive full financial support throughout their four years in the program. That support extends to all aspects of the student experience. Additionally, the scholarship covers housing costs, meal plans, and book allowances. This allows students the freedom to focus exclusively on their studies, without the stress and distraction of financial insecurity.
In addition to the financial benefits, students in the program receive training, with a special emphasis on leadership development, designed to help them succeed in their academic careers and beyond. Each scholar starts the program by taking a first-year seminar designed to help them acclimate to NYU and Stern as well as prepare them for the program’s rigors. Throughout their time at Stern, they receive one-on-one coaching. They also take part in a special cohort-based leadership curriculum to help them form strong connections within the program. What’s more, students have access to professional development workshops, corporate visits throughout the year, and exclusive networking and leadership opportunities.
Forging New Opportunities
In 2022 NYU Stern launched another scholarship program for their undergraduates, the Berkley Achievement Scholars Program. This scholarship, which provides full tuition for talented business students from across the United States, offers students the opportunity to study business at NYU Stern and graduate debt-free. Berkley Achievement Scholars gain access to exclusive networking and coaching opportunities, corporate site visits, cultural events, and inSternships—exclusive internships available only to students in the program.
A Place for All
There is no formal application requirement for these scholarships. Instead, incoming first-year students are selected during the NYU admissions process. That’s why students shouldn’t let financial circumstances stand in the way of applying to a dream program. In each program students get unparalleled access to the New York City business community, the largest and most robust in the country, plus the industry knowledge and access available through NYU Stern faculty and peers.
