NYU students using the new gaming space.

Gaming set-up in the STC

Have you ever thought about turning your passion for gaming and eSports into something more at NYU? If so, NYU eSports offers you an incredible opportunity and a vibrant community to do just that.

Imagine channeling your love of gaming into an entertaining and engaging college experience. NYU eSports provides a platform for students like you to do that. Whether you’re hoping to fill a competitive itch or enjoy gaming during your free time, there’s always a place for you here.

How did I find my way to NYU eSports? As a new transfer student, I stumbled upon the community while browsing the NYU Student Hub on Discord. (You can link your NYU email to find the NYU Student Hub or join through this link.) That’s how I discovered that NYU eSports is home to several competitive teams. Each team specializes in different games. There’s a team for almost every competitive game out there. For example, you can join the League of Legends, Overwatch 2, or Counter-Strike 2. As someone who has always been intrigued by eSports and competition, I decided to try out for NYU’s competitive Valorant team.

Joining the Valorant team was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I get to compete against other colleges in weekly matches and tournaments while spending time with my teammates, whose friendships extend beyond the server. We practice together, celebrate our victories, and learn from our defeats as a cohesive team.

If competitive eSports isn’t your thing, don’t worry! You can attend NYU eSports watch parties on campus. At these events, you can bring your friends or meet new people. In addition, there are many intramural eSports events at NYU. For example, you can compete in FIFA or fighting game tournaments. Or you can join an intramural league with your friends for a game of your choice!

A new PC space recently opened at the Third North Residence Hall Student Technology Center. This is a game changer for anyone involved with NYU eSports. Now there’s a dedicated space on campus where you can improve your gaming skills, connect with other students who share your interests, and immerse yourself in the world of eSports.

The brand-new PC setups are located in Third North’s basement level. (You’ll find them right across from Washington Square News’ newsroom.) The Student Technology Center is open to all competitive teams and members of NYU eSports. If you’re practicing or competing in a tournament, you can use this space as your go-to resource.

Equipped with five top-of-the-line gaming PCs, 27-inch 240hz monitors (if you have never played with one, you need to try it out!), high-speed internet, and comfortable seating, the Student Technology Center is designed not only to enhance and improve your gaming experience but take it to the next level. NYU eSports also supplies students with Logitech peripherals. So if you don’t have your own headset, mouse, or mousepad, don’t worry. The fully equipped center means all team members can have the best experience when using the space. But, if you prefer to bring your own gear when playing on the PCs, you can!

Lastly, another PC at the Student Technology Center is specifically set up for virtual reality (VR) games. If you haven’t tried VR gaming before, now is the time to do so!

So, if you ever thought of turning your gaming passion into something more, now is your chance! Connect with NYU eSports, dive into the vibrant gaming community on campus, meet people who share your interests, and take advantage of the brand-new PC space! What are you waiting for?
