Wellbeing isn’t a destination—it’s part of your everyday rhythm. It’s shaped by what’s happening around and within you, and it looks different for everyone. At NYU, we believe wellbeing is a shared responsibility. When we care for ourselves and one another, we help build a healthier, more compassionate campus, which means a healthier, more compassionate world.
The NYU Student Wellbeing team champions this commitment by connecting students with clinical services and other resources that support physical, mental, emotional, and social health.
Your First Stop for Clinical Care
When you need routine medical care, treatment for an illness, preventive services, or mental health support, the health-care professionals at the Student Health Center (SHC) are here to help. Doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and mental health specialists provide accessible, confidential, and comprehensive care tailored specifically for NYU students.
Whatever you need, NYU is here for you. “We’re experts in student health,” says Zoe Ragouzeos, vice president of student health, mental health, and wellbeing. “No matter what’s going on—even if you just need a referral to an external provider—we encourage students to begin their care with the clinical experts at the Student Health Center,” she affirms.
Most routine primary and mental health-care visits are available at low or no cost, regardless of your insurance. Both in-person and virtual appointments are easy to schedule. Whether it’s an annual physical, an eye exam, or personalized counseling, getting quality care is simple and convenient. And when specialty care is required, providers can connect you with on-site specialists or refer you to health-care professionals across New York City.
Clinical Services
Students have access to a broad range of clinical services located at the SHC, including:
- Primary care
- Urgent care (for both physical and mental health)
- Immunizations and vaccinations, including free annual flu shots
- Gynecological and sexual health care, including contraception counseling and STI testing
- Gender-affirming care
- Travel health consultations
- Allergy and specialty care, including dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, and sports medicine
- Mental health support and psychiatry, including talk therapy, individual counseling, group counseling, wellness workshops, and peer support
- Support for personal challenges, such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, emotional regulation, time management, and life transitions
Additionally, SHC features a full-service pharmacy offering prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, birth control and emergency contraception, and medication counseling.
24/7 Support: The Wellness Exchange
Students at every NYU location can also access the Wellness Exchange, a confidential resource available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Certified counselors are on call to provide immediate support whenever it’s needed through the Wellness Exchange app or by phone at 212-443-9999. The phone number is conveniently printed on the back of every NYU ID card, and no concern is too big or too small.
Your Wellbeing, Your Way
Wellbeing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every student brings unique needs, interests, and routines to campus. That’s why NYU offers a flexible playlist of options rather than a prescribed path. As one student in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development Class of 2027 notes, “I was first drawn to NYU Wellbeing through the RADical Health program during my first year. As an international student who was completely new to New York City, I wanted to find ways to remain grounded in my mental health.”
Whether you want to strengthen your physical health, build meaningful relationships, improve your sleep, or simply feel more connected, you’ll find resources designed to support your individual goals. Explore what works for you, leave what doesn’t, and build habits that fit your life.
