What comes to mind when you picture yourself studying business at NYU? Your first thought might be a path leading to a career in accounting, finance, or management. But take a moment to investigate that thought further. You can apply the elements that make someone successful in business—like communication, critical thinking, financial savvy, and leadership—to nearly every field.

At NYU, you have the flexibility to explore many business pathways. To start, here are a few examples to consider.

Study Business in the Center of It All

Ready to immerse yourself fully in the business world? NYU’s business programs in New York City allow you to take advantage of all the resources that come with studying in one of the world’s most influential centers for business and commerce. What’s more, NYU’s location opens doors to unlimited opportunities for networking, internships, and site visits in nearly every industry. At the Stern School of Business, you’ll be able to choose from a full range of business-focused majors. It’s also one of the top undergraduate business programs in the United States. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to explore diverse industries and careers in programs that emphasize social responsibility and globally inclusive perspectives.

Want the world to come to you? Explore the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Management major at the School of Professional Studies (SPS). Here, you can learn the ins and outs of the hospitality industry in a city that hosts millions of visitors each year. “I knew I wanted to study business at NYU,” says recent Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Management graduate Joe Pagliazzo. “However, a general business degree did not excite me. After some searching I connected my love for travel, fast-paced environments, and customer service with studying hotel and tourism management. The major is ideal if you know you want to apply what you learn in the classroom to the world around you.”

Real Estate is another option that takes advantage of New York City’s unparalleled opportunities. The NYU SPS Schack Institute of Real Estate offers this major, which combines business fundamentals with an in-depth exploration of the real estate market. Additionally, if you’re interested in sports, the Sport Management major at SPS takes you behind the scenes of the industry. New York City is home to 11 major sports franchises, and it’s the headquarters of every major North American sports league. Furthermore, it’s home to countless sports agencies, marketing firms, and tech start-ups.

Work at the Cutting Edge of Technology

Science and technology intersect with business in new, exciting ways every day. The Tandon School of Engineering’s Business and Technology Management (BTM) major creatively fuses modern business administration with state-of-the-art technology management. Graduates have become entrepreneurs, financial analysts, project leaders, marketing managers, and venture capitalists. “This major brings together the best of two exciting fields,” says BTM major Eshika Patel. “Today’s technology-infused industries require a certain amount of technical literacy. By pursuing my degree alongside science, technology, engineering, and math students, I can take advantage of experiences that traditional business students may not have.”

At the same time, the Anand Khubani Business, Technology and Entrepreneurship (BTE) major combines business and technology studies, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship. The program operates within the Stern School of Business. Khubani BTE majors immerse themselves in New York City’s tech and entrepreneurial scene. They also visit powerhouses like Google and smaller start-ups that are pushing the frontiers of innovation. Then, in their final year, students work directly with early-stage start-ups or build their own ventures.

Engage in the Business of Creativity

When it comes to business at NYU, creativity and practicality are not mutually exclusive! Whether you’re drawn to fine art, film, television, or music, adding business skills and a knowledge of business principles to your studies can lead to a rewarding career.

Are you a screen buff? Apply for the Business and Film and Television dual-degree program. It’s offered by Stern and the Tisch School of the Arts. “This program’s unique mix is perfect for starting your own venture or working for top entertainment firms,” reports NYU senior Tong Zhao. “Once you graduate, you’ll be brimming with entrepreneurial spirit and have a rare combination of business and creative skills. As a result, you’ll be set to dive into a variety of roles in the entertainment world.”

Meanwhile, musicians can combine an education in music with business courses at Stern through the Music Business major at the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. This unique program takes advantage of NYU’s dynamic location and access to the music industry.
