From architectural marvels to bustling city streets to breathtaking vistas, student photos answer the question: “What is NYU study away really like?”
You could spend time scrolling through the camera rolls of students who studied away at one of NYU’s 16 global locations. Or you could stop by the StudentLink Gallery, run by the NYU Office of Global Programs. Every semester, the gallery on the first floor of the StudentLink Center features a fresh exhibit of photos taken by student photographers who recently studied away. Below, find eight stunning selections from the StudentLink Gallery’s spring 2024 exhibit.
”Kinship” by Morgan Bramwell | NYU Madrid
Morgan Bramwell is a senior at Tisch. She snapped this photograph while traveling to Morocco with friends during her semester at NYU Madrid. “I took a three-day tour from Marrakesh to see the Sahara Desert during my final weekend,” she shares. This was one of two trips to Morocco that Morgan took during her semester away. The other was organized through NYU. “We did a homestay during Ramadan and met other college students,” she adds.
“Dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London” by Naysa Escobar | NYU London
Naysa Escobar, a junior at Stern, spent a full year abroad at NYU London and NYU Madrid. While in London, she took this photograph of historic St. Paul’s Cathedral. “The photograph encourages a moment of introspection about our place in the world, the impact of our creations, and the beauty that lies in the harmony between the built environment and the natural world,” says Naysa. “It speaks to the persistence of London’s history and the ever-present influence of nature.”
“Zhangjiajie” by Camille Lizcano | NYU Shanghai
Camille Lizcano, a senior at Tisch, studied away at NYU Shanghai. During fall break, she traveled with friends to the city of Zhangjiajie in Hunan, China. There, she took this photo of a building within the famous 72 Strange Buildings scenic area. “At night, the building lights up with lots of color and is a central hub for the people of Zhangjiajie to gather and socialize,” says Camille.
“Malasaña” by Tahra Khanuja | NYU Madrid
Journalism and Global Liberal Studies double major Tahra Khanuja spent a semester studying at NYU Madrid. While there, she snapped this shot and many others in Madrid’s Malasaña neighborhood.
“Experimental Visuals of the Fernsehturm” by Max Van | NYU Berlin
While studying away at NYU Berlin, Tisch senior Max Van took this experimental shot of Fernsehturm Berlin, the historic TV tower. “Its distortion is inspired by TV static and public media information,” says Max.
“Mole National Park Safari” by Neisa Brito Barbosa | NYU Accra
Neisa Brito Barbosa is a sophomore in the Silver School of Social Work. She spent a semester studying away at NYU Accra, and caught this elephant in action during a school-organized trip to Mole National Park.
“Taken During Sunset Time in Venice, Italy” by Gabrielle Zimerman | NYU Tel Aviv, NYU Prague, and NYU London
College of Arts and Science junior Gabrielle Zimerman has studied away three times during her undergraduate education. She’s traveled to NYU Tel Aviv, NYU Prague, and NYU London. On a school break during her semester in London, she and a friend journeyed to Venice, Italy, where she captured this photo of the sun setting over the iconic canals.
“Kylemore Abbey” by Anna Corporon | Summer Abroad in Dublin
Anna Corporon, a senior in the College of Arts and Science, spent a summer studying away at CAS Summer Abroad program in Dublin. A school-organized weekend trip to Kylemore Abbey in County Galway, where Anna took this beautiful shot, was a highlight of her summer.
