Congratulations on being admitted to NYU! The next four years are going to be amazing, and we can’t wait to see you in New York, and around our global network.

Here are ten things to do this month (and beyond) as you get ready for your NYU adventure to start:

10. Attend an Admitted Student Event!

Your Home Base is your, well, home base for a world of events now open to you. Whether you’re coming to New York for one of our in-person events, or Zoom-ing in, there are so many exciting things to discover, conversations to be had, and people to meet. If you have questions about some aspect of NYU life, there’s probably an event covering that.

9. Stroll Up the High Line

Just a short walk or a quick Uber ride away from NYU lies the High Line, a transformed elevated train line that offers a unique urban park experience. Take a leisurely post-WOTS stroll along New York’s West Side, or for the daring, conclude your walk with a visit to the Edge for a more “elevated” experience.

8. Grab a Slice

New York City and pizza go hand-in-hand, and the debate over the best slice in town is ongoing.  If you come to New York, dive into the pizza culture with a visit to iconic spots like Joe’s for a classic slice, John’s for something a bit fancier, or venture to Little Italy to experience the Mulberry Street offerings at Rubirosa.

7. Connect with Your Fellow VIOLETS

You don’t have to be on campus to connect with your classmates: Join the NYU Class of 2029 Discord server to meet and celebrate with other new Violets now! (Psst, you’ll find the link in your Home Base!)

The server is an exclusive space just for members of the NYU Class of 2029: a place where you can introduce yourself and connect with other new students, find answers to your new-to-NYU questions, and, most importantly, have fun! We’ll also use this server to share important NYU news on deadlines, events, and more throughout the spring.

6. “Hello NYU, Welcome to my Crib”

It’s never too early to begin planning to have the coolest room on campus. You can begin your prep looking at the various residence halls and figuring out your best fit. But why stop there? Look for some internet inspiration on how to make your room shine.

There’s even an event where current students share their tips!

5. Start Your Violet Brag List

You are joining almost 200 years of NYU history and a lot of amazing things have happened here in that time. Did you know Def Jam records was started in an NYU residence hall? Or that Suzanne Collins (of The Hunger Games fame) is a proud NYU alum?

Or that you wouldn’t have Buzzfeed quizzes without NYU? Find out who else is on the NYU Walk of Fame!

4. Eat Like a NYU Student

You can’t grab a nosh at the dining hall… yet. But you can still eat like a Violet. Check out all the coffee and bagel shops, diners, boba tea stalls, and food trucks around campus that are always packed with NYU students. Enjoy good food and better people watching!

If you are around our NYC campus, we have a list to give you with our student ambassador recommendations!

3. Violet-ize Your OOTD

Everyone looks good in NYU Violet! Visit the NYU Bookstore, either online or in person, and get yourself some swag.

If you’re attending an event on-campus, you may just get some NYU gear for free!

2. #NYU2029

Let the world know where you’re headed!  Take some pics and post them with #NYU2029!  If you’re in New York, might we suggest taking one next to the Washington Square Arch.

Washington Square Park is the unofficial “quad” of NYU.  And the arch is iconic. But be careful – don’t cross under it!  NYU tradition holds it is bad luck to walk under the arch before you graduate.  There are even unofficial ceremonies celebrating everyone’s first time. But hey, something to look forward to

1. Enjoy your summer!

Well, first, make sure you have responded YES to your decision offer. But then, relax and have an amazing summer! Don’t worry, if there is something that needs doing or deadlines that are approaching, NYU will make sure you are aware of your next steps.

Take this time to have an adventure, spend time with family and friends, or sit with a cat on your lap and enjoy this playlist curated just for the Class of 2029!

We can’t wait to welcome you to the NYU family and share in your academic adventures.

Until then, bask in your good news and we’ll see you soon! 💜

Hey there!  I’m Nathan Armstrong (he/him) and I have too many words in my title.  But basically, it’s my job to oversee events for Undergraduate Admissions, like October Open House and Weekend on the Square.  As a graduate of UC Santa Barbara and native Californian, I’m embracing my love-hate relationship with seasons.  Outside of NYU, I’m a working improv actor and produce my own improvised musical (now in its 9th year)!  I’m also an avid board game fan, and have lost many hours to Dune: Imperium.
