If you’re anything like me, the Muppets were a staple of your childhood. I loved watching these characters rush to work together to put on a magical show full of singing, mistakes, and brilliant comedic moments. Their teamwork and collection of personalities  created something beautiful. To me, this is exactly what NYU is like. We are a collection of brilliant individuals who all have different passions, interests, and lives. And at the end of the day, we come together to make an incredibly beautiful, diverse, and unique community.

So, with all that in mind… forget if you are a man or a muppet, let’s do a deep dive into which NYU schools match to the beloved puppets of our past.

Miss Piggy - Tisch School of the Arts

This first choice might be fairly obvious, but I think that’s the fun of it! Miss Piggy is a great representation of Tisch. She goes after what she wants, prioritizes her craft, and always comes through with her talent. Even if she can be dramatic sometimes, Miss Piggy is a bright presence and overflows with talent during showtime.

Fozzie Bear - Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development

Next: Fozzie Bear best represents our NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Steinhardt is home to a variety of majors that center the humanities and the arts. Fozzie is extraordinarily creative and caring – which is a very similar energy to students in the Steinhardt School.

Statler and Waldorf - Stern School of Business

Statler and Waldorf are business-oriented people, much like NYU Stern students. Not only do they look sharply dressed (as if coming from a long day’s work at JP Morgan) but they have some lovely balcony seats that I can only assume their company gave them as a bonus. They enjoy a good evening at the theater, and even if there is some cynicism along the way, they appreciate a good final product.

Gonzo - Gallatin School of Individualized Study

NYU Gallatin students are able to hone in on what they are passionate about and their energy is contagious–much like Gonzo. Also, both tend to be fashion-forward, and prioritize what excites them to create their own way.

Beaker - Tandon School of Engineering

Like our Tandon students, Beaker is always exploring new and innovative methods of scientific research. No matter what goes wrong or what seems like it cannot be solved – like Beaker, Tandon students are determined to find answers to some of life’s most complicated questions.

Kermit - College of Arts and Science

Kermit and the College of Arts and Science are a match made in heaven because they were both the first of their kind. (CAS is NYU’s oldest school, and Kermit is one of the first Muppets.) Kermit is multifaceted and multitalented, and just like our College of Arts and Science students, he is a dreamer and a doer. CAS students have a variety of interests and talents, and are looking for answers to some of the world’s most pressing issues and questions. Kermit cares very deeply about all of his friends, supports their dreams and wants to keep the show running – just like our CAS students want to help the world around them with through their  interests and majors.

Scooter - School of Professional Studies

Scooter and our NYU’s School of Professional Studies students keep the Muppet and NYU worlds turning. Scooter makes sure everything is running as smoothly as possible – which is not an easy task in the Muppet-universe. SPS has some amazing majors for those who aspire to manage people and make waves in key industries like Hospitality, Travel and Tourism, and Sports Management. Scooter, like our SPS students, is great with people and a natural leader and manager.

Rowlf - Silver School of Social Work

Rowlf best represents our Silver School of Social Work – he is rarely flustered by the show’s constant mayhem. He is just happy to help and make sure everyone is at ease. Our Silver students are helpful and caring people who have dedicated themselves to making positive change in their communities. Rowlf is laid-back and easily makes people smile, and like Silver students, is here to make the world a better and brighter place.

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew – Rory Meyers School of Nursing

Like our amazing nursing students at NYU Meyers, Dr. Honeydew strives to find solutions to complex problems. Dr. Honeydew and our Nursing students love science, work hard to ensure people feel comfortable and cared for, and are completely dedicated to being at the top of their field.

Rizzo – Liberal Studies Core

Rizzo is a very multifaceted individual. Like NYU’s Liberal Studies students, he is ambitious and unafraid to take risks to solve problems. As curious, out-of-the-box thinkers, Liberal Studies students and Rizzo are both are determined to find their way and do a great work at everything they set their minds to.

Walter – NYU Shanghai

Walter embodies the vibrant and creative energy of NYU Shanghai. NYUSH students (and Walter!) are determined to step outside of their comfort zones seeking new adventures and new friends from all over. Another Fun Fact: NYU Shanghai and Walter himself were both created in the early 2010’s! Both this campus and Muppet are best summed up as: bold, innovative, and iconic.

Janice – NYU Abu Dhabi

Janice is a stylish and beloved member of the band Electric Mayhem, just like NYUAD is a stylish and beloved member of our NYU campus community. Witty, bold, and multitalented, Janice is a natural leader and wears many hats throughout the show, just like NYU Abu Dhabi students.

Hello everyone!! My name is Alex Jenny (she/her) and I am a second year at NYU studying Film and Television at our Tisch School of the Arts with a minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the College of Arts and Science. I am from Raleigh, North Carolina, but I also lived in Hong Kong for 2 years! I work as an Admissions Ambassador at NYU and outside of school I love all things comedy – I do stand up around New York and love everything about writing and telling jokes!
